RISKS IN A CHANGING WORLD – PART 1

We are delighted to invite you to this ‘Risk in Conversation’ webcast event taking place on 30 November 2020.  
The discussions at this event will be set against the backdrop of the significant health, economic and societal risks that have presented over the last number of months.  The event will be hosted by journalist and broadcaster Richard Curran who will welcome Colin Hunt and Deirdre Hannigan along with guest speakers Professor Luke O’Neill, Marion Kelly and Danny McCoy.
At the event, the panel will provide their opinions and latest updates on matters relating to COVID-19, Brexit, small and medium enterprises, economic risk and the importance of maintaining a robust risk culture throughout this period of uncertainty.

Our Panellists

Colin Hunt

Colin has been AIB’s Chief Executive Officer since March 2019. Colin will share his views on the AIB response to COVID-19 and the future economic outlook. He will discuss what this means for AIB as we get his views on the future of banking and how AIB conducts its business in a changing business environment. 

Deirdre Hannigan

Deirdre has been AIB’s Chief Risk Officer since April 2017. Deirdre will provide her views on the importance of risk management, what it means for staff across the three lines of defence and strategically to the wider business. Deirdre will also provide insights into current risks and future outlooks.

Richard Curran

Richard will be the professional moderator for this event. Richard is an accomplished broadcaster with RTE and has been deputy editor of The Sunday Business Post, assistant editor of The Sunday Tribune and business editor of the Irish Independent in his 27-year career. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience across a wide variety of business, economic and social issues.

Marion Kelly

Marion was appointed CEO of the Irish Banking Culture Board in March 2020. Prior to this Marion worked in a number of risk roles in BOI and PwC. Marion will provide us with her views on core focus areas of risk management relating to culture and why maintaining an effective culture is essential in today’s financial sector.

Danny McCoy

Danny has been the Chief Executive Officer of Ibec since his appointment in 2009. At this event Danny will provide us with his views regarding the UK’s impending departure from the EU and his views on how small and medium enterprises need to respond if they are to survive both Brexit and COVID-19 impacts.

Professor Luke O’Neill

Luke is a Professor of Biochemistry in the School of Biochemistry and Immunology at Trinity College Dublin.  He is a world expert on innate immunity and inflammation and is listed in the top 1% of immunologists in the world.  At this event Luke will provide us with the latest updates regarding COVID-19, its trajectory and the latest developments regarding the production of a vaccine.

As a follow on to Part 1 of the Risks in a Changing World, we are delighted to be able to invite you to join some of AIB’s Board and ExCo members as we discuss the AIB response to the significant health, economic and societal risks that have presented over the last number of months. 
The event will be hosted by the Head of Enterprise Risk Management and Risk SMT member John Kelly who will welcome AIB Non Executive Board member Carolan Lennon along with Colin Hunt, Deirdre Hannigan and their ExCo colleagues Cathy Bryce, Robert Mulhall, Jim O’Keeffe and Donal Galvin.
Our panellists will provide us with their views on how AIB continues to respond to the unprecedented challenges of COVID-19, Brexit and some of the biggest issues facing the economy right now and the importance of maintaining a strong risk culture.

Our Panellists

Colin Hunt

Colin has been AIB’s Chief Executive Officer since March 2019. Colin will share his views on the AIB response to COVID-19 and the future economic outlook. Carolan Lennon

Carolan is CEO of Eir and was appointed to the AIB Board in October 2016.  She is a member of the Board’s Sustainable Business Advisory Committee and the Board Risk Committee.  Carolan will give her views on the importance of effective risk management in protecting our customers and the organisation, from her perspective as a Board and Board Risk Committee member.

Deirdre Hannigan

Deirdre has been AIB’s Chief Risk Officer since April 2017. Deirdre will provide insight into the AIB Risk response to the recent risks and challenges that have evolved over the last number of months. She will also give us her views on the importance of maintaining a strong risk culture particularly in a time of heightened uncertainty.  

Robert Mulhall

Robert has been Managing Director of AIB Group (UK) plc. since March 2020. Robert will be providing us with his views on the key risks facing the UK. Robert will also be discussing his views on matters relating to risk culture and how the culture of the organisation has evolved.

Cathy Bryce

Cathy is the Managing Director of CIB appointed since July 2019. Cathy will provide her views on how our large corporate customers have responded to the impacts of COVID-19 and provide us with some insights into how AIB and our customers are responding to the impacts of Brexit.

Jim O’Keeffe

Jim has been the Managing Director of Retail Banking since January 2020. Jim will discuss his views on the risks that have emerged over the last number of months and how these risks have impacted our customers. He will also discuss how AIB continues to respond to ensure we meet the needs of our customers.

Donal Galvin

Donal was appointed Chief Financial Officer in March 2019. He will provide his thoughts on the recent financial impacts of COVID-19, the uncertainty of Brexit and the Group’s sustainability ambitions.

John Kelly

John joined AIB in 2016 as Head of Enterprise Risk Management. John as Moderator for the event is looking forward to discussing the key themes shaping the banking industry in Ireland and the impact they will have on AIB with our senior leaders and how AIB are positioned to respond to these risks and opportunities.
